How an editor can help your business

Editors work with writers and books and magazines, right? Sure. But an editor can do wonders with a business that is based on ideas, and especially when the business promotes and teaches ideas. If your business is based on your ideas, you can use an editor. Here’s why:

(1) Building your product builds your business. Your ideas are the foundation of your business. It matters how you convey those ideas–with a book, via a blog, using social media–because you can’t afford for the words you use or the medium itself to distract from the ideas. Don’t let the words get in the way. Use an editor to build a product that delivers your ideas exactly the way you’d want them delivered.

(2) As you work with an editor, you refine your expertise. Teaching others is the most efficient way to enhance your knowledge of your subject. You’ll work out the kinks and flaws in your thinking by thinking through the issues and questions that a critical reader (your editor) will raise. Your editor will be your most valuable resource to find the gaps in what you know, before your competition or your audience and customers do.

(3) No matter what mediums you’ve already used to promote your ideas and your business, there are others to explore. An editor can suggest social media channels or traditional avenues to get your ideas the right exposure. Ask your editor what mediums he’s been successful in, and use that experience to get new audiences, and new customers.
